Freyja

FREYJA

Freyja was Herjólfur’s wife and it is believed that she gave him four children. She was an elegant lady and a marvelous seer. A great number of people came to Freyja with all types of problems and many more made their way to the island to receive answers from the gods through Freyja. She had a lot of compassion for people and tried to make their lives as easy as she could. However, she was careful not to go against her husband’s wishes.

Every day, Freyja began her day by talking to the gods and making sacrifices to them. She made sure her children were well fed, got the house hold chores going and read runes. When Freyja felt that Herjólfur was weighing on her, she let out the words "Reið sé rögn ok Óðinn". Herjólfur’s brew was usually sacrificed to the gods after an argument with her husband.

Did you know that Freyja invented the expression: whoever is wiser will yield.
